Genesis Campos

My name is Genesis Campos, and I’m a Personal Lines Underwriting Manager in the Underwriting department.
My Role and Background
Originally, insurance was never the plan! I graduated with a degree in Commercial Arts & Graphic Design and dreamed of going into animation and web design. But life had other ideas. I took what I thought would be a receptionist-type job at Jimenez & Co. in Miami, and that’s where I was introduced to the world of insurance.
From there, I fell in love with homeowners insurance, and I was lucky to have a great mentor who took me under her wing. I earned my 4-40 license, and after a couple of years as an agent, I found myself curious about the other side of the business: underwriting. How do underwriters make their decisions? Why can’t they make exceptions? I wanted to know how that world worked.
That curiosity led me to FedNat Insurance, where I started as a customer service representative and worked my way up to UW Supervisor. From there, I found an opportunity at Tower Hill and joined as a Personal Lines Lead Underwriter. When the manager position for the Underwriting department opened up, I went for it and here I am today.
As Underwriting Manager, no two days are exactly the same, and that’s what I love about it. I love being there for my team whenever they need assistance, but I also love collaborating with other leaders and departments to work through issues and keep us all aligned.
What really energizes me is being part of initiatives that lead to real change: things that improve our department, lighten the workload, support the team and help us meet our goals.
What I enjoy most about my job is watching my team grow and succeed.
There’s nothing better than helping someone get where they want to go in their career. And what makes it even more special is that every single person on the underwriting team genuinely wants to see our department and Tower Hill as a company succeed.

What I found so invigorating was working with a leadership team that asked, “What do you want to do, and how can I help you get there?” and then actually followed through with recommendations, courses, conferences and reading material.

Life Outside of Work
Some might be surprised (and some might not!) but I’m building my own official library. I’m working toward a collection of 1,000 books and I’m almost there. Reading has been a big part of my life since elementary school, when I first picked up a book titled The Boxcar Children.
I also paint and draw in my downtime. In high school, one of my pieces sold at an auction for $250, which felt like a lottery to a 16-year-old! Beyond that, I love watching anime and international dramas, and spending time with my husband and two corgis, Kergi and Nami.
