December 2025
My name is Kathleen Craig, and I’m the Vice President of Marketing at Tower Hill.
What I Do as VP of Marketing
Every day starts with reviewing production numbers, first thing in the morning! From there, anything can happen, because our business is always moving.
I stay in constant communication with our marketing team to ensure we’re doing everything we can for our agents. Reports are analyzed daily to identify opportunities for added sales. Working with our reps on underwriting exceptions is also a key part of my role, since agents often come to us with unique situations.
I call myself a three-legged stool: I work out of my home office, I have an office in Gainesville with my team, and I travel in the field with the reps. I want to see firsthand what agents experience and what they’re saying. Building strong personal relationships is what makes Tower Hill successful.
“Our relationships with agents have always been the foundation of Tower Hill…their success becomes our success.”
I always say, “You do business with who you like and trust,” and that has been our foundation. Our Chairman, Bill Shively, built this company on strong relationships with agents from the very beginning. We even have agents today who share stories about Bill visiting their offices early on, and that speaks volumes.
Each of our reps manages anywhere from 170 to almost 300 agency relationships in their regions of the state. They constantly engage with those agents through visits and Teams meetings to review our products, appetite, marketing campaigns, and how Tower Hill stacks up against competitors. Relationships are key, and that’s something I truly love about this job.
And those relationships gave brought me some pretty memorable moments, too many to count! I’ve been caught in a flash flood, played golf where a bird was hit mid-air (the agent did it, not me!), and even had to cover up and executive who split his pants while traveling. I’ve worked at catastrophe response sites where the asphalt was so hot my shoes melted. There’s never a dull day in this role.
My Career Journey
I started college as a Business major because I “wanted to be in business.” The dean, with whom I was very close, told me, “No. You need to major in Psychology. If you understand the people, you will be a success. Anyone can learn the business.” So I changed my major, and he was right.
My career began in auto claims. One day, a friend from church asked if I was happy there, and I said no. It turned out he was the Executive Vice President of Aetna, reporting directly to the President! He told me about a new Agent Representative Training program that would select only 12 people in the entire country. He couldn’t get me the job, but he could get me the interview. I completed five different tests, and they offered me the position.
The first six months I worked in every department of the company. The next six months, I worked in an independent agency selling all personal lines products. After completing the training program, I moved to Birmingham and became the Personal Lines Marketing Representative for all of Alabama. I fell in love with the career.
Later, I worked with several smaller startup companies, helping develop new markets. I’d always admired Tower Hill as a leader in the industry. In May of 2002 I was referred to Tower Hill, and after meeting Bill and the executive team, I knew immediately I wanted to work here. I truly love what I do, I love who I work with, and I feel blessed to be part of this organization.
My Team & My Tower Hill Family
I’m most proud of developing my teams over the years. I see my role as a coach, bringing out the best in people, treating them right and fairly, and creating an environment where they can succeed. When someone I’ve trained gets promoted and builds a career here, I feel like I played a small part in that success. That means everything to me.
I also love the culture we have at Tower Hill. I’ve always valued a company that feels like family, and that is exactly what Bill built here. Yes, we are a large company, but our culture and relationships set us apart. That sense of belonging is why I choose Tower Hill, and why I love being here.
