What Should I Do If I Have Damage?

If your home has been damaged, taking steps to prevent additional damage is important—even if an adjuster has not yet inspected your property.

Here’s what to do after home damage and how to handle emergency repairs while your claim is being reviewed.

Document the Damage

Before beginning cleanup or making emergency repairs, take photos of your property in its damaged condition.

Documenting the damage gives your Claims Representative an opportunity to review the condition of your property before repairs are made or damaged items are removed.

If possible, do not discard damaged belongings before your Claims Representative has reviewed the damage.

Protect Your Home From Further Damage

Regardless of coverage, take reasonable steps to protect your property from additional damage.

For example:

  • Dry out areas of your home that have been affected by water.
  • Remove water-soaked items when possible.
  • Arrange for professional water extraction if needed.
  • Place a tarp over a damaged area of your roof to help prevent additional water intrusion.

These emergency measures can help limit further damage while you wait for your property to be inspected.

What If I Need Emergency Repairs Before the Adjuster Arrives?

You do not need to leave your home exposed to additional damage while waiting for an adjuster.

Depending on the damage, you may need assistance from a professional water extraction company or another service provider to make temporary emergency repairs.

Tower Hill can recommend preferred vendors in your area who may be able to assist. When you report your claim to Tower Hill, ask for the contact information of preferred vendors who can help mitigate further damage.

Keep Your Receipts and Invoices

Keep all receipts and invoices for emergency services and repairs so your adjuster can review them as part of your claim.

Depending on your deductible and the emergency services provided, you may be responsible for upfront costs charged by vendors.
